From its initial role as an electricity importer in the wholesale market some 15 years ago, TEI ENERGY S.p.A. has expanded its activity, and today, it serves as an interconnector, a developer of market lines, a wholesale trader of energy across Europe, and a supplier of energy to final industrial consumers as well as small- and medium-sized businesses.

Trading and sale to retail market

TEI’s power trading activity spans across Europe, with a particular focus on the Italian market.

The Group sells energy to utilities, and final industrial customers in Italy and abroad. The sales range from a 1-week term to annual deliveries, and they can be planned to cover both peak and off-peak time slots, non-standard profiles, and continuous supply on a 24/7 basis.  The energy sold comes from both renewable sources and generated thermal power. In early 2016, TEI began selling in the retail market to small- and medium-sized businesses, and started to supply electricity to customers through its internal structure and an agent network.  By the end of 2016, TEI will also be active in selling natural gas to final customers.

In Italy, TEI also supplies planning and trading services to various consortiums of final consumers and municipal utility companies that own electricity plants in the national territory.  TEI also manages a portfolio of wind parks across Italy.

Power Assets

In rounding out its trading activity, TEI set up a joint venture with Enel S.p.A. (AdriaLink S.r.l.) for the purpose of developing and building lines for the exchange and interconnection of energy capacity between Slovenia and Italy. The first two lines received EU regulatory approval at the end of 2015.

In view of the changes in demand for thermoelectric and renewable energy production in Europe, in the past year, TEI sold two thermal production plants located in Italy, which are to be dismantled and reassembled in Africa.

In December 2015, TEI also sold its shareholding in the company, Volta Renewables S.r.l., which was a special-purpose vehicle for the Company’s photovoltaic investments.

Engineering services

Following the sale of the thermoelectrical generation assets, the TEI engineering team refocused its activity, and now supplies engineering services to various customers throughout the world, from South America to Africa and Asia.

TEI ENERGY S.p.A. has its registered office in Italy, and all of its trading activity is carried out within the European Union and Switzerland, with around one-half of its activity in the Italian market.  TEI also owns an equity investment in a German affiliate that focuses on business in Germany, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic.
